A MUCH-anticipated town centre store is set to open ahead of schedule.

The Best of Oswaldtwistle Mills will open its doors at the former Woolworths store on Broadway, Accrington, at 9am tomorrow (Saturday).

Fifteen people have been employed at the new store which will sell a range of women’s fashion brands, giftware, Stockley’s Sweets, Musbury Fabrics and Yankee Candles.

Among the full and part- time recruits are four ex-Woolworths staff from the Accrington, Burnley and Bolton stores.

Debs Connell, HR manager at Oswaldtwistle Mills, said: "We had a fantastic response, receiving over 300 applications for the sales positions which made selection very difficult."

The successful candidates have undergone a training day at Oswaldtwistle Mills and Clifton Hall to prepare for the opening.

Managing director Boyd Hargreaves said: "We are delighted the opening is ahead of schedule and are looking forward to starting trading.

"Transforming this store should give the town centre a new injection of life and we have every confidence that it will succeed."

Its opening coincides with the Lancashire Food Festival at the Town Hall this weekend.

It will feature cookery demonstrations, children’s workshops, wine tasting and an appearance from celebrity chef, Ready Steady Cook favourite Gino D’Acampo.

He will be making an appearance tomorrow to perform two demonstrations and sign copies of his book.
