Great Harwood community members participated in a successful clean up day the St Hubert’s Road and Lomax Street area of the town.

The clean up day gave residents a chance to get rid of unwanted household items and allowed volunteers to clean the streets. The skips were filled with discarded items, that may have otherwise been discarded elsewhere improperly. Overall, six large skips were filled with discarded settees, mattresses and doors by the residents with more than 200 residents taking part.

A number of hotspots and areas of concern were highlighted and these will be reported.

The day had been made possible with after collaboration between Hyndburn Borough Council and Lancashire Constabulary

Coun Noordad Aziz, who led on the project, said: “I am delighted with how the community clean up has gone and to fill six skips shows how successful the event was and I have to thank the cleaning staff from Hyndburn Borough Council who were exceptional on the day as well as thank PCSO Helena Cryer from the Great Harwood neighbourhood policing team who help set this up with myself.”

This project will now be carried out in another part of the town.
