A spate of car thefts has sparked concerns in Accrington.

Car windows were smashed, items stolen from insecure vehicles and work vans targeted for tools during the weekend rampage.

Police are currently investigating six incidents in the Woodnook and Barnfield areas of the town between Friday October 17 and Sunday October 19.

The break-ins were part of a spate which saw 26 vehicles targeted across Hyndburn, Burnley and Blackburn.

Sergeant Andy Horne, of Lancashire Police East Division, warned residents to be vigilant.

He said: “Wherever they may live, I would advise all vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles are locked and secured to avoid becoming the victim of thefts.

“The dark nights are drawing in so keep your cars parked in well lit areas, remove work tools from vans to somewhere secure and lock your motorcycles and mopeds away.

“Don’t leave your valuables on display as these are an open invite to thieves, so I would also advise people to ensure items such as satnavs are removed from cars.”

Officers are also advising the public to remain vigilant and report anything, including any information about recent thefts, to police on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
