FIVE youngsters are hoping to walk away with the title of Young Achiever of the Year at next month’s Hyndburn Sports Awards.

Bria Fielding, 16, from Church aspires to be a professional boxer when she leaves school.

She took bronze for England in the Nations Cup, a European international women’s boxing tournament, and hopes to one day represent Team GB at the Olympics.

Harriet Swindells, 16, from Rhyddings School is an extremely dedicated and talented basketball player. She is currently part of the under 16 England basketball team. and has been a determined player ever since she arrived at Rhyddings, aged 11.

Niamh Robinson, 15, a swimmer from the Pioneer 79 club, finished third in breaststroke at the Scottish Open National Championships and became the Isle of Man’s youngest ever swimmer to reach a semi final when she represented the island at the Commonwealth Games.

She took silver and bronze at the ASA Swimming Championships and will soon be competing at the Junior Commonwealth Games in Samoa.

Sohail Asghar, 19, from Accrington has been a football referee for four years.

He is qualified at level 7 for football refereeing and is undergoing the assessments for level 6.

Sohail continues to be chosen to officiate in games across Lancashire in some high profile fixtures and has recently been recruited to the Premier League and Football League youth alliance.

Tegan Davies, 14, from Accrington Academy, trains up to eight hours a week with the Bredakwai Judo Academy after taking up the sport less than two years ago. She recently won her first competition, the Lancashire Closed Championship.

Coun Ken Moss, who is on the judging panel said: “It makes me proud to be part of the awards when I see the achievements these people have made at a young age.”

The Hyndburn Sports Awards will be held at Accrington Town Hall on September 18.
