Two men armed with knives have left supermarket staff ‘shaken’ after an attempted robbery.

Police said they were called to the Co-Op store on Union Road in Oswaldtwistle following reports two men entered the shop carrying knives.

The pair approached the counter in an attempt to take money but left empty-handed.

They made off towards Harvey Street and possibly towards Foxhill Bank Nature Reserve and White Ash Brook.

One of the males is described as white and both men are believed to be around 5ft 10in in height.

The incident happened at around 7.10am on Thursday, January 28 and detectives have now launched an investigation.

Det Sgt Simon Upton, of Lancashire Police, said: “This appears to be an opportunist incident.

“However, the fact both men have had what we believe to be knives has left the shopkeeper shaken.

“Luckily these incidents are few and far between.

“We have a team of detectives working on this incident trying to find those responsible.”
