Accrington Stanley player Kal Naismith has paid tribute to his girlfriend after she died on Thursday aged just 22.

It's believed Ashley Dickson passed away following a long-term illness.

Midfielder Kal, 22, who joined the Reds from Rangers in August 2013, posted on Twitter about his partner, who was from Glasgow.

He wrote: "Ashley I miss you like crazy I would give anything in the world to be able to cuddle you. You'll always be mine and I'll always be yours."

Hundreds of tributes have been posted on social media as grieving friends and family learned of her death.

Football fans last night took to Twitter to express their condolences to Ashley’s loved ones.

Davie Shanks tweeted: “My thoughts are with Kal Naismith and all the family at this sad time.”

Ewan McQueen posted: “Awful news about former Rangers player Kal Naismith’s girlfriend passing away. Thoughts with him right now."

Adam Shaw tweeted: “horrible news to hear about Kal Naismith’s girlfriend. thoughts are with him and Ashley’s family!”

And Gurdep posted: “My Thoughts & prayers are with Kal Naismith and the family of his girlfriend, RIP Ashley”.
