AN ACCRINGTON Stanley starlet was arrested following the incident at a Southport restaurant which led to England and Liverpool ace Steven Gerrard being charged with assault and affray.

Winger Robert Grant, 18, from Litherland, Liverpool, was released on bail without charge pending further inquiries.

He was one of six men questioned about the incident at The Lounge Inn in the early hours of Monday.

Businessman Marcus McGee is reported to have lost a tooth in the incident and needed stitches for cuts to his face.

Gerrard, 28, and two other men were charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

They will appear at North Sefton Magistrates’ Court on 23 January.

Grant is a big hope for Stanley’s future. He came through the ranks to make his first team debut at the age of 16. He had a knee operation at the start of this season but is just forcing his way back into the first team picture.
