Rishton and Great Harwood Soroptimists have raised more than £150 for a domestic violence support charity.

Members of the soroptimists group raised the money by running a chocolate and toffee tombola stall at the Great Harwood Show last week.

The first members arrived at 7.30am to assemble the stall and prepare the chocolates and toffees with proceeds going to Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Domestic Abuse Team (HARV).

Mary Pollard, of the soroptimists group, said it was a very successful day.

She said: “On completion the stall looked very inviting with a wide assortment of prizes ranging from small items to some very large ones.

“The 50p a go, with a prize every time, seemed very popular especially with the children as no one went away empty handed.

“By lunchtime the footfall around the showground and to the stall had increased and most of our prizes had been claimed.”

More soroptimist members took over the running of the stall in the afternoon and were also visited by BBC Radio Lancashire.

Mrs Pollard added: “Unfortunately as we went into the afternoon the rain came and people started to head for home.

“The day was hard work but fun and thanks must go to all the members who supplied the chocolate and toffee for the stall.

“It was a very successful day with approximately £152 raised for HARV.”
