A talented young kickboxer has successfully defended her British title in front of friends and teachers.

Keely Battrick completed her 30th straight victory to defend the 14 and under title at the North West Open held at Mount Carmel High School in Accrington.

Around 400 spectators and 100 fighters attended the open event with 45 bouts being held throughout the day.

Keely, 12, who attends Mount Carmel, beat Elle Bailey in just the first round with a spinning back kick and has now won 50 fights in total.

Her father Billy Battrick, who runs the Fit To Fight club in Accrington, said: “It was really nice for her as it was held at her school and her friends and teachers were there.

“It was a really good win and I’m really proud of her. The fight was supposed to be over five rounds but she did it in one.

“The headteacher Mr Bowers really likes his boxing and we were very grateful he allowed us to use the school hall. It is a massive venue and hundreds of people were there and really enjoyed it.”

The event was sponsored by Glenn Slater Building Contractors and AMT Lawyers.
