A pub landlord has called time on four football clubs - including Accrington Stanley - by banning them from the premises after claims some players failed to obey the rules.

The Windmill in Tabley, Cheshire, is just off the M6 at Junction 19 and is often used by football, rugby and netball teams as a pick up and drop off point on the way to games.

But a sign currently outside the venue, which also offers food and accommodation, states that the whistle has been blown on League Two Stanley, League One sides Rochdale and Bury together with Conference North team Stalybridge Celtic because of a “lack of respect” to fellow punters and staff and a failure to comply with rules set by the landlord.

The Windmill pub in Tabley has banned four football teams from its premises after they failed to obey the rules. They are Bury FC, Rochdale AFC, Stalybridge Celtic and Accrington Stanley FC

It reads: “The following football teams are banned from The Windmill due to lack of respect towards members of the public, staff members of The Windmill and by not doing what has been asked.

“Accrington Stanley, Stalybridge FC, Bury FC and Rochdale FC.

“Each individual player is responsible for the whole team without exception.

“Failure to comply will result in a police escort from the premises, letter out to the local newspapers and teams added to the above list.”

Rules include no “attitude” towards anyone at The Windmill, no bags inside the pub (they must be left in cars or on the coach), you must a drink or food if using the pub and not take your own food and drink in, and you must pay the parking fee.

A spokesman for Accrington Stanley and Rochdale AFC declined to comment.

The Observer has been unable to speak to Bury FC and Stalybridge FC.
