An Accrington lad has made a big impression after making it through the first round of the X Factor.

Reece Bibby, 15 wowed judges in the first episode of the series screened on Saturday night, with an acoustic version of Disclosure’s Latch, which had his family in tears backstage.

Before his audition, the teen said: “My dad brought me up listening to indie music - Pulp, Stone Roses, Oasis.”

Despite praise from judges Mel B and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Simon Cowell told Reece he would have to pull out all the stops for his second audition.

Reece’s dad Jamie said his whole family was incredibly proud of him.

He said: “Reece was going through the auditions and studying for his GCSE’S at the same time.

“He had no social life between revising and working on his music for his audition - but all the hard work paid off.

“He got 2 A*s and 6A’s and he was over the moon with his results.”

The former Hollins pupil will be going on to St Christopher’s High School to study for his A-levels.

Reece first made headlines last year when he performed an impromptu gig with Liam Gallagher from Oasis.

Jamie said he’s coped very well with the pressure.

He said: “Reece is just cool as a cucumber, he’s not one for getting all emotional, I cry at anything but that’s because I’m so proud of him.

“He’s always been musical, he had his first drum kit when he was two-years-old, and he then went on to playing the guitar and singing.

“We sent him to music school and I think that helped with him being on stage and performing.

“Simon Cowell said he wanted to see him do something without his guitar, so watch this space.”

The X Factor continues on Saturday night at 8pm.
