Three men have been arrested after two police officers were injured when their vehicle was in collision with a stolen car.

Police had been attempting to stop the Audi in the early hours of this morning, when the collision occurred on Willows Lane in Accrington.

Two officers were taken to Royal Preston Hospital. Police said their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The incident happened at around 4.30am on Thursday.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called around 4.35am today following reports of a burglary in Rossendale.

“A red Audi RS6 had been reported stolen from an address in Newchurch Road, Stacksteads. Following enquiries police traced the vehicle to Green Haworth Golf Club in Willows Lane, close to Accrington.

“As officers attempted to stop the Audi, the vehicle was involved in a collision with a police car, injuring two police officers.

“The Audi overturned and several people made off from the scene. Both officers were taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

“Two men aged 19 and 22 from Accrington and a 24-year-old man from Blackburn were all later arrested on suspicion of burglary.”
