Community groups in Hyndburn have just one day left to be in with a chance of winning a £1,000 cash prize.

The Accrington Observer has teamed up with Vodafone to reward the community group, club or charity most deserving of a cash boost.

The Community Connection Award is being offered to celebrate the opening of Vodafone’s new store in Accrington Arndale Centre.

For a chance to win we are asking community groups, clubs and charities from across Hyndburn to explain why they deserve the cash and to pose for a team selfie that best reflects the efforts of the team.

We have already had a number of entries for the prize, including from Susan Davies, a fundraiser for the East Lancashire Hospice, who said they would like to win the money in memory of another fundraiser from the hospice, Brenda Musgrove.

She said: “We’d like to win the donation in Brenda’s memory as she would be so thrilled to know that she’d helped raise more funds to help towards the £3 million East Lancashire Hospice needs.”

Another group which got in touch with us is the Friendship Club, who would like to win the money to help with catering.

Elaine Richards said: “The Friendship Club has 80 members and provides monthly activities and outings for people in Hyndburn, many of whom are unable to get out by themselves.” Groups are being asked to post a short message and a photograph to our Twitter or Facebook accounts explaining why their group, club or charity is deserving of £1,000, by Friday, October 31.

Charities must include a reference number. The winners must be willing to pose for a picture at the new Vodafone store.

All entries must include contact details.
