AN ALL-expenses-paid skiing holiday in the French Alps is on the horizon for a Baxenden woman after she was named employee of the year in her first year in her job.

Katharine Butler, 25, of Birch Terrace, works as a public relations executive for Nelson-based telecoms firm Daisy Communications.

The former Mount Carmel RC High School pupil won the accolade following a successful 2007 spent raising the profile of the firm.

She can now look forward to spending five days in the luxury ski resort of Morzine later this month with £500 spending money.

Katharine said: "I was really overwhelmed to win and didn’t expect it for one minute. Obviously I’m over the moon. I’m looking forward to getting away for a break, spending some time on the slopes and seeing a bit of snow."

The company’s commercial director Tony Dixon said: "We believe in the old-fashioned style of properly rewarding your employees. I think it is something that is sorely missed in a lot of companies and it is something we are keen to promote here.

"The directors and I think an awful lot about the people who work for us and we see such rewards as true recognition for consistent hard work."
