Tributes have been paid to a truck-mad dad who has passed away, aged 50.

Allen Winning, of Riding Barnes Street, Church, was admitted to Royal Blackburn Hospital in early December with a chest infection. His condition deteriorated and he later developed pneumonia before passing away on Saturday, January 24.

The dad-of-five worked as an LGV driver for various companies including ICI Canopies UK, Medex Medical and Tuffnells.

His son Nick, 29, from Accrington, said his death came as a ‘shock’ and he will be ‘greatly missed.

He said: “He’s been in ill health for about six years but this came about quite dramatically. He was in hospital and just got weaker and weaker. It’s come as a big shock to the family and everyone.

“He had to stop work six years ago because of his health but he was an LGV driver and also used to work in a few factories.

“His family was very important to him. He was very devoted to his family and his wife and will be greatly missed by everyone.”

Nick added: “He absolutely loved trucks and wagons and really enjoyed watching that Eddie Stobart programme on television.

“He was obsessed. Anything to do with trucks, that’s all he was bothered about.

“He had a right dry sense of humour and made sure you walked out the door with a smile on your face.”
