A GANG of teenagers attacked a man’s prize possession as he lay in hospital fighting for his life.

Stephen Jenkins, 53, suffered a heart attack last Saturday, and as he was being treated by medics, callous youths trashed his V-reg Robin Reliant.

Mr Jenkins’ neighbours chased after the vandals, some of whom were as young as 14, who tipped the three-wheeler onto its roof.

Less than an hour later the youths returned and attacked the car again.

Mr Jenkins, of Wordsworth Road, Accrington, is now at home recuperating from his heart attack.

He said: "While I was in hospital in a very poorly state these kids attacked my car. I had such a lot to worry about over the weekend, this was just extra stress I just didn’t need.

"My wife told me the news about my car while I was in hospital. I am a car enthusiast and love my Robin Reliant.

"The kids have obviously thought it was unusual and thought it would be comical to turn it over.

"I had only got the car roadworthy in the last couple of weeks as I have been suffering from bad health for the last year.

"I am not sure whether the car is still roadworthy."

Mr Jenkins bought the car, which is worth approximately £2,000, a year ago.

Reliants, which were first manufactured in the 1960s, have attracted a cult following in recent years thanks to Del Boy’s yellow three-wheeled van in the BBC comedy series Only Fools and Horses

A police spokesman said: "We were called to Wordsworth Avenue after Mr Jenkins’ car was attacked.

"We appeal to anyone with information about the attacks to come forward.

"Anyone with information should contact us on 0845 1253545 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
