Accrington’s answer to Del Boy has been speaking to the Observer about his new found fame after a video of him falling over in a town centre pub racked up an incredible 200,000 hits on YouTube in the space of a day.

Matthew Hartley, from Nelson Street in Accrington, became an internet sensation when he fell over at the Arden Inn on Abbey Street.

Footage of the incident, highly reminiscent of a perfectly timed classic scene from comedy Only Fools in Horses, has gone viral on YouTube and gained thousands of views on the Observer website.

CCTV footage from the pub shows the moment Matthew tried to lean against the pool table - which unbeknowingly to him had been moved just seconds earlier.

He falls back with nothing to break his momentum and lands on the pub floor, throwing his drink over his shoulder.

Matthew said his phone has been ringing non-stop since the video took off online, but he’s taken it all in good humour.

He said: “He said: “One minute it was there and the next it was gone.

“My phone has been ringing non-stop, I was just out with a friend and we had been playing pool, and the next minute they moved the pool table and I went to lean on it and it had gone. I don’t think I spilled a drop of beer.”
