THE Fire Service has issued a warning about the dangers of grass fires after a number of incidents over the weekend.

Fire crews spent an hour tackling a blaze, which had been deliberately started at the top of the Coppice in Accrington, on Sunday afternoon.

Nobody was injured during the incident but fire crews said that it could have been worse, due to the nature of the terrain on the Coppice.

A spokesperson for Accrington Fire Service said: "Anybody who is lighting fires needs to think twice about it. It is not an easy job to do and it's a really bad use of resources for us."
