Hundreds of eager shoppers queued up for the opening of Iceland's Food Warehouse store.

Free gifts were on off to the first 100 customers through the door and queues stretched back across Eastgate Retail Park in Accrington ahead of today’s 9am opening.

Store bosses organised a DJ and compère to warm up the waiting crowd and sealed red envelopes were handed to customers before the doors opened with details of their prize inside.

These included the chance to win a free freezer or bluetooth speaker.

Free food and muffins were also made available to customers inside.

The frozen food giant has created 25 full or part-time staff at the store which has moved into the vacant Morrison’s unit following its closure in March.

Steve Kennery, store manager, said: “It’s a really great turnout. We were hoping for lots of people to come down.

“We hope the store will be good for Accrington going forward and we have created 25 jobs.

“The Warehouse store is a lot different to other Iceland stores as there is a lot more range with things like toys and exotic meats.”
