A Chinese takeaway blaze caused chaos to rush-hour commuters after a road was closed off.

Three fire crews from Hyndburn and Great Harwood and an aerial ladder platform from Preston were called to Wongs takeaway on Blackburn Road in Great Harwood at around 4.30pm on Friday, June 3.

Lancashire Police closed off Blackburn Road from Rushton Street to James Street with traffic being diverted.

Dozens of residents and passers-by also gathered at the scene.

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “When firefighters arrived there was a fire involving a cooking range which had spread to the ceiling.

“Crews used one hose reel and four breathing apparatus sets to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters were at the scene for two hours. There were no injuries.”
