JOEL Chadwick proved an instant splash when he took his first swimming lesson.

The four-year-old went to Hyndburn Sports Centre for a private session with instructor Jason Curtis - and within 10 minutes he had swum 10 metres without armbands.

Jason said: "It was really impressive. He was diving and jumping in as soon as he got there. By the end of the session half-an-hour later he had swum from the deep end to where he could stand."

"He had his second lesson this week and he swam a length - 25 metres - no problem. He is a real water baby."

Swimming coach Jason had previously taught Joel's brother Joshua, eight, and knew that the brothers had a natural talent in the water.

Their dad Keith said: "Joshua has gone on to represent Pioneer 79 Swimming Club. It is going well and he loves it. It is nice that his little brother is following in his footsteps."

Joel attends the First Class Care Children's Nursery and lives in Edinburgh Drive, Oswaldtwistle, along with mum, Amanda.

His instructor continued: "I have been coaching for eight years and Joel has certainly impressed me."
