YOUNG people in Hyndburn can get information about things to do and places to go direct to their mobile phones thanks to the launch of a new community website.

Lancashire County Council's Youth and Community Website will allow young people to hook up and find out what is going on wherever they are.

All they have to do is enter the address www.lancsycs.org into their mobile phone browser to have all the services of the site at their fingertips.

Grant Murdoch, of the Youth and Community team said: "We have been using text messaging to get information to young people for some time and this is the next exciting step.

"This is about the items that young people carry about when them such as the new generation of smart, web-enabled mobile phones and handheld devices to deliver information to young people about what is on offer for them during their spare time.

"We want to make services more accessible and keep pace with technology so it is an essential development."

A spokesman for the What Now? group which helps plan information services for young people said: "This new service will definitely make the website and information more accessible.

"As young people are always on the go, they want to reach services through their mobiles at their convenience.

"The new mobile web service is great as you can find out now what is going on 24 hours a day."

The website now gets up to 24,000 new visitors per month which is double the number of hits it got last year.

It offers information about a range of activities throughout Lancashire as well as how to get advice and information.
