The streets were full of the party spirit as the Oswaldtwistle carnival came back with a bang.

After a 15-year absence the carnival was revived for the community, and was a huge success.

Gayle Knight, who was part of the committee that helped to bring the carnival back to life said it was a huge success.

She said: “It was amazing, the sun shone for us and more than 3,000 people came out to support us, which is a crazy number.

“Everything went smoothly, we had 25 groups walking in the procession and the streets were lined with crowds of people.

“We couldn’t have asked for anything else, all our hard work over the last few months has really paid off.

“A small team of people planned this event together, and on the day we were like a well oiled machine and things just worked well.”

Gayle said it was great to see so many people in Rhyddings Park enjoying the carnival.

She said: “I think we lifted about 120 bags of rubbish from the park afterwards, which is a clean-up in itself.

“We had three live performance areas with singers and live bands, and
30 to 40 stalls doing various raffles and tombolas and there were loads of different types of food on offer.

“I’ve had people coming up to me asking me when the next one is.”

Gayle said they are planning another carnival for 2016.

She said: “We’re not doing one next year as it’s the Accrington carnival and we don’t want to clash with that.

“We’d like to have more hands on deck for the next one, so the plan is to organise some meetings and see who wants to get involved.”
