A man who flouted an ASBO which banned him from every roof in Hyndburn has been charged after a 24-hour rooftop stand-off with police.

Adam Paul Corbett, 22, spent the whole day on the roof of a bank and a pub in Great Harwood with two others on Tuesday.

Corbett, of Clayton Street, Great Harwood, has now been charged with 15 offences including seven breaches of an ASBO, theft of a vehicle, the attempted theft of a vehicle, four counts of criminal damage, affray and assaulting a police officer.

He was handed an ASBO in April banning him from every rooftop in the borough.

Sergeant Stuart Banks said: "He’s been sought after by the police for the last couple of weeks. He’s constantly gone on the roof to evade arrest.

"On Monday night he went on the roof of Natwest with two other males. They’ve caused damage to the roof of Baggy's Wine Bar.

"In previous weeks we’ve ended up in a stand off due to us not wanting to put ourselves or them in danger of falling off a roof. They’ve managed to get themselves in a position where they’ve had to come down and they’ve been arrested."

Police got fed up with Corbett’s antics as every time they paid him a visit, he would simply climb on the roof, using tactics such as going up through the loft space.

The force has been left with huge bills after calling on their helicopter to deal with his behaviour.

Police have not kept a constant presence at the scene on each occasion as it takes resources away from other areas. Officers said that Corbett has come down from the rooftops when police were away and gone missing on two occasions.

Sgt Banks said: "It's really resource intensive. We’ve even had the fire service out with a platform and the ambulance service. It does cost a lot of money. It's frustrating, but we're determined that if we keep on targeting him then he will be dealt with every time."

n Mark Crobett, 24, of Burton Street, Rishton, was charged with the attempted theft of a vehicle, affray and criminal damage and a 17-year-old male have been charged with affray. All three were expected to appear before Blackburn Magistrates Court.
