A man has been arrested after walking through the streets covered in blood and armed with a machete.

The man was spotted by members of the public leaving a side street on Lion Street in Church before walking down Blackburn Road towards Accrington town centre.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said eyewitnesses reported the man ‘either bleeding or covered in blood’.

The incident happened at around 3.50pm on Thursday, May 21.

He was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and affray and was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital by police for treatment and assessment.
