The best British car of all time will be named by Classic & Sports Car at the London Show this autumn – and the Jaguar E-type is currently front-runner by a narrow margin.

The final decision is down to a public vote and the victor will be chosen from a shortlist of 10 classics. Alongside the E-type, contenders include the Bentley Speed Six, Austin Seven, the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, Mini Cooper S, McLaren F1 and the Lotus Seven.

The shortlist was drawn up after the polling of about 100 leading figures in the world of classic cars. Contributions came from the likes of Pink Floyd drummer and classic car aficionado Nick Mason, motor racing writer Simon Taylor, the McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray and Lotus design chief Russell Carr.

If you want to have your say, you’ll need to get your vote in by 1 August. Simply go to the Classic & Sports car show’s website where you can also find the full list of cars.

The show is on between 30 October and 1 November and coincides with a host of classic events taking place in London. These include the Regent Street motor show, the Bonhams veteran auction and the London to Brighton veteran car run.
