A BRAVE teenager who shaved her hair off for charity said it was a 'dream come true' to meet her pop idol Jessie J.

Libby Shepherd, 13, raised more than £2,600 for East Lancashire Hospice earlier this year after shaving her long blonde locks in front of 200 pupils and staff.

The Mount Carmel High School student, who was inspired by Jessie J after she did the same thing for Comic Relief, raised the money in memory of her late granddad Henry McGowan.

Her selfless and courageous actions prompted best friend Sophie Guest, 13, to put Libby forward to appear on Sunday night ITV show Surprise Surprise.

Libby, who lives in Oswaldtwistle, was taken to the London Dungeons under the ruse of filming a promotional video.

However the Oswaldtwistle youngster burst into tears of joy when during the visit a scary hooded figure revealed herself to be Jessie J.

Libby said: “When I saw her I shot out of my skin. I was speechless and didn't know what to say and started crying.

“We went to the studios and she performed live for me. She was really nice and told me to always believe in what you want, reach for the starts and carry on being inspirational.

“We had a good chat about hair tips and she said she will always remember me. I never thought I would meet her in all my life so it's a dream come true.”

Libby and Sophie were also invited by Jessie J to watch her perform at the Manchester Arena last weekend.

Her mum Joanne Shepherd said Libby was 'in shock' after the show and praised Sophie for nominating her.

She said: “That night was about what Sophie did. That was such a thoughtful thing to do for a 13-year-old. It was selfless and a real act of friendship.

“We new Libby was going to get a surprise but didn't realise what it would be.

“I didn't honestly expect it would be Jessie J as she is a worldwide superstar. She is as genuine as she appears and was really good with the girls.”

Speaking on the show, Jessie J praised Libby saying: “When I was 13 shaving my head wasn't on my mind so for you Libby to have done that in front of your whole school that takes a brave inspiration person.”

Sophie, also speaking on the show, said: “I feel happy I have been able to give her a chance to get something back for what she did. She deserves it more than anyone.”
