Accrington’s £6.4m new bus station is taking shape as its opening dates gets ever closer.

Marcus Wallbank, a member of the Accrington camera club, grabbed a few pictures of the new station on Crawshaw Street which is set to open to the public in May.

Hours of cancelled work have delayed the completion of the bus station, which is scheduled to open two weeks later than planned.

Heavy rain, high winds and frost left contractors unable to work for much of November.

The expected completion date is now Friday, May 13, after a total of 65 hours’ work had to be cancelled last month due to weather conditions.

Hyndburn Council leader Miles Parkinson said the opening of the bus station on May 22 was part of the regeneration of the town centre.

He said: “The opening of the bus station will see the decommissioning of the bus shelters on Peel Street which will create more free parking to attract people into the town centre.

The bus station is the next stage in th Pennine Reach scheme.”
