Hundreds of children, school staff and family members gathered to take part in a Race for Life event.

Everyone at St Peter’s CE Primary School in Accrington took part in the annual charity event to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

It was organised by staff members Debbie Astley and Nicola Rogers who thanked everyone for ‘making it such a special event’.

The race on the school playground and all-weather pitch involved 172 children, around 20 staff and another 60 parents, grandparents and guardians with both a 20-minute infants race and a 30-minute juniors race.

Debbie said: “It is the third year we have done it and we always raise a lot of money. Last year everyone raised £2,249. We don’t know yet how much we have done this year but we are hoping it will be the same or more.

“We have already had children coming in with the money. One child had raised £35 and other had £100. The families are really wonderful and generous. Everybody came dressed in pink and the whole community really embraced it. It was fantastic weather and an amazing day.”
