A 100-year-old celebrated bringing up three figures by planting a rose bush and enjoying a party with family and friends.

Hannah Bond, who lives in St Andrew’s Court, has been a resident of Oswaldtwistle all her life.

She was born on Brookside Street in 1915 and was one of nine children.

Hannah married Charles Bond and moved around the town before settling in the sheltered accommodation at St Andrew’s Court and became one of the first residents of the scheme when it opened in 1987. She worked in various cotton mills in Oswaldtwistle for most of her working life and later during her retirement she enjoyed going to sequence dancing.

She has a daughter Marian and a son John, she also has two grandchildren Phillip and Jonathan and two great-grandchildren Isobel and Aurelia.

Family, friends, fellow scheme residents and councillor Peter Britcliffe came together for Hannah’s 100th birthday party.

The residents held a collection to plant a rose bush in the grounds of the scheme accompanied by a plaque.

Children from the local St Andrew’s Primary School provided hand painted pictures for party decorations in the community room.
