Two Team GB athletes joined colleagues at the Altham-based firm Simon Jersey to mark the countdown to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

BMX champion Liam Phillips and freestyle swimming star Fran Halsall joined around 150 staff and their families for the ‘Simon Jersey Games’ - a fun sports-themed day at Accrington Academy marking a year until the Olympics closing ceremony.

Simon Jersey is an official supplier to Team GB and will supply the athletes with the clothing they will wear during the ceremony which is set to be watched by nearly a billion people worldwide.

Liam, Fran and the Simon Jersey team enjoyed various activities including human table football and volleyball tournaments as well as fairground-style entertainment and a hog roast.

James Saunders, managing director, said they had a ‘fantastic day’.

He said: “It’s amazing to think that the outfits we’re designing for Team GB will be seen by so many people. With just a year to go until Rio we’re getting excited and gearing up for the Games and wanted to give our team and their families the chance to meet athletes who are hoping to take part.”
