Developers of a former bank are counting the pennies after slashing the building’s utility costs by 90 per cent.

Building assessment company RBA bought the 165-year-old Commercial House former HSBC building in Rishton three years and have now made it ‘as near to carbon neutral as possible’.

Steven Roberts, technical director, said the previous ‘utility burden’ was £3,000, however this has now been cut to just £300.

The upgrades include ‘ultra-insulation’, under-floor heating, LED lighting, ventilation heat recovery and fully re-glazing the windows.

Steve, 61, who has lived in Rishton for 35 years, said his company is now based at the building and using it as a ‘showcase’ for potential clients.

He said: “We go into buildings whether commercial or residential and advise how they can reduce their running costs. Rather than just talk the talk we wanted to walk the walk so people don’t have to take out word for it.

“We have done a lot of work and clients can now come in and see how things work and take away ideas with them.”

The building will be formally opened on Wednesday, April 22 at 2pm.
