The police are asking for the public’s help in locating a wanted sex offender.

Francis Patrick Doherty, 61, is wanted for breaching of his notification requirements by not informing police of his current address.

As a result, his licence has been revoked and he is now being recalled to prison. Doherty’s last conviction was in 2014, also for failing to inform police of his address. He was originally sentenced in relation to the sexual assault of a boy at Burnley Crown Court in 2005.

Doherty lives in Burnley, but has links to Accrington as well as Haslingden and Bacup.

DC 2602 Andy Ashworth, from the East Dangerous and Sexual Offenders Unit, said: “We take any breach of notification requirements very seriously and as a result of Doherty failing to tell us of his current whereabouts, we are trying to trace him.

“I would also urge Doherty himself, if he sees this appeal, to hand himself in to the police.”

Francis Doherty was last sighted in Manchester City Centre on the last Bank Holiday Monday, May 25. He is known to move around, sleeping on friends’ sofas.

He is described as white, around 5ft 8ins with blue eyes, of proportionate build and speaks with a north west accent.

Anyone with information about Doherty’s whereabouts can contact DC 2602 Andy Ashworth on 01254 353851. Alternatively, they can call 101.
