Police are hunting a man after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted near Accrington train station.

Police said the 16-year-old had been walking along Richmond Road at around 11.20pm on Saturday, July 23, when she got talking to three Asian men.

They are thought to have walked to Accrington Train Station and stayed there for some time.

Lancashire Police said one of the men is reported to have committed a ‘serious sexual assault’ on the victim at the Paxton Street side of the station at round 5am before running off towards Paxton Street.

The man is described as Asian, aged 19 or 20, broad/muscular build, 6ft 1in with short dark hair.

He was described as wearing a baseball cap, red checked jacket and dark trousers.

Det Sgt Melissa Kelly, of Blackburn CID, said: “The victim in this case has been subjected to a serious sexual assault and an investigation is on-going to identify the person responsible.

“We are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area on Saturday night into Sunday morning.

“If anyone saw the group in the area at the time or has any information that could assist with our enquiries I would urge them to contact us as soon as possible.”
