Remembrance Day parades and memorial services across Hyndburn have been announced.

Hyndburn council is supporting the Royal British Legion and has extended an invitation to residents to attend Remembrance Sunday events taking place across the borough on Sunday, November 8.

Members of the public are also invited to join the Mayor, Coun Marlene Haworth and Members of the Royal British Legion and council outside Accrington Town Hall at 11am on Armistice Day Wednesday, November 11 for a two-minute silence, starting and finishing with a maroon flare.

Coun Haworth said: “Please support your local Remembrance Sunday event, taking place on Sunday, November 8, with services and parades in each township in Hyndburn, to remember all those who have fought and given their lives for peace and freedom.

“Also on Armistice Day, please join us at Accrington Town Hall at 11am to mark the two minutes’ silence and reflect on the sacrifices of our service men and women.”

Events on Remembrance Sunday, November 8:

Accrington - Service at cenotaph at Oakhill Park at 10.30am followed by parade. Free transport available at 9.50am outside Accrington Town Hall.

Altham - Service at 10.15am at St James Church, Altham followed by Act of Remembrance at the war memorial.

Church – Parade departs at 10.30am from Bank Street. Service and wreath laying at war memorial in Gatty Park at 11am.

Great Harwood - 10.30am parade to the war memorial. 10.50am service and wreath laying at the war memorial.

Huncoat – Assemble at the corner of Burnley Lane and Lowergate Road. Procession to the war memorial for wreath laying at 2.30pm.

Baxenden - St John’s Church service at 3pm.

Oswaldtwistle - Thwaites Street 2.10pm, parade along Union Road to the war memorial on Rhyddings Street for combined service and laying of wreaths.

Clayton-le-Moors - Procession starts at 9.30am from Civic Hall followed by service at All Saints Church and wreath laying at memorial.

Rishton – 9.45am Service at St Charles Church followed by parade to war memorial at 10.30am.
