A community group has attracted more than 600 signatures in opposition to a proposed traveller site.

The Rising Bridge Community group has gained 644 signatures against a proposed permanent traveller off Blackburn Road in Rising Bridge.

The suggested site forms part of the council’s ‘Lives and Landscapes’ housing plan, which is due to finish consultation on September 7.

The group has leafleted thousands of homes in the Rising Bridge, Haslingden and Baxenden areas about the proposal since it was announced in July.

The group is due to meet about the proposal at Baxenden Cricket Club on Wednesday, September 2 from 6.30pm to 8pm.

A group spokesman said: “We would like to thank everyone for their support so far.

“Our meeting will be an informal style meeting where you can come along at anytime throughout the even and ask questions in relation to the development.

“We have invited a number of people from the council to attend this meeting.

“We have a great deal of information that has been gathered in regards to the site and what grounds we can object on. It is vital that we stand together.”
