A Hyndburn school was shortlisted for two categories at a top education awards event after being nominated by pupils.

Norden High School in Rishton was nominated for Outstanding School of the Year and Teacher of the Year at Rock FM's Education Rocks awards.

Jordan Sutton, a year seven pupil, nominated the school for the school of the year award, and it came runner up to St Michael’s Catholic Technology College in Leyland.

Jordan said: “I nominated the school because, although I have only been at Norden a short time, I have settled in so well and the place is like family. It has a lovely feel and a positive vibe.” English teacher Mrs Jodie Richardson also came runner up in the teacher of the year category after being nominated by a member of her form Laura Devaney for being a supportive and caring teacher.

Of her teacher, Laura said: “I am due to leave Norden in six months time and I don’t know how I will cope without her.

“She is so very supportive of all her pupils and is always happy to offer valuable advice and guidance.”

The event was held at Blackburn College and hosted by Hywell and Jamies from the Breakfast Show and included drinks and a canapes reception.

Claire Munroe, of Norden High School, said they were ‘absolutely delighted’ to be shortlisted.

She said: “It was a very proud moment for the school and the staff, and so lovely to receive recognition from the pupils. We can ask for no higher accolade.”
