The Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle are fundraising for flood hit areas of Cumbria.

The club, as well as Santa and his sleigh, will be collecting at the Accrington Tesco on Sunday, December 20 and all proceeds raised will go to the Cumbria 2015 Flood Appeal.

Kenneth Freeman, Fundraising Chairman for the Rotary Club, said: “I am sure all the residents of Hyndburn have a tremendous sympathy with the appalling situation in Cumbria.

“All the many Rotary Clubs in Great Britain are rising to the challenge of providing assistance to the Cumbria Flood Appeal and I am sure all the people going to the Tesco on Sunday will give generously, and thank you for your continued support.”

The areas badly affected by severe flooding include Carlisle, Keswick, Kendal, Cockermouth, Appleby, Glenridding and St Michael’s, and parts of Lancashire have also been badly hit with floods.

Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment have been rescuing vulnerable residents from the flood.

The devastating floods may mean that people are unable to return to their homes for up to a year after the water subsides.
