A schoolgirl who sent a homemade card and gift to Kensington Palace after the birth of the Royal baby is over the moon after receiving a thank you note from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Layla Hart, 5, from Great Harwood, made a hand-drawn card and a personalised bracelet as a present for William and Kate, following the birth of Princess Charlotte in May.

Her mum Lisa Hart said: “I work at a school library, and we’d been making cards for the Royal baby. When I came home, Layla said she wanted to make one too.

“She drew a picture of baby Charlotte and wrote ‘Congratulations on the birth of your baby’ inside.

“She also loves making things out of loom bands, so she decided to make them a bracelet, with letter beads spelling out Charlotte, George, Kate and William.”

After popping her gift in the post, Layla was excited to receive a thank you card from the Royal couple.

The card, which showed a picture of William and Kate leaving hospital with their new daughter, said: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were most touched by the thoughtful gift you so kindly sent. They send you their warmest thanks and best wishes.”
