A Pals song that will make you cry

IRISH musician Ephy Clarke, who lives in Oswaldtwistle, has released a CD to commemorate the Accrington Pals.

He has taken the incredible story of the legendary Pals and, using his amazing songwriting skills, has woven their story into a beautiful and moving song.

And he has decided that all proceeds from the sale will go towards our Aspire campaign to save the beautiful and historic St John’s Church, which houses the Pals Memorial Chapel.

The CD, which went on sale last Thursday, costs £5 and is now available from our offices at 103 Blackburn Road as well as at Oswaldtwistle Mills, Accrington Stanley and Blackburn Rovers.

It will also be available after St John’s Church services at St Christopher’s High School on Sunday mornings.

Pals historian Les Bond said: "There are only 500 copies of the CD available. Members of Stanhill Working Men’s Club had ordered 17 copies worth £85 before it was even released. It’s a beautiful song and may even make you cry."

Fund-raising co-ordinator Karen Smyth added: "Les bought copies to St Christopher’s on Sunday and he sold 13 within a few minutes. Les is also available to do talks about the Pals to interested groups in exchange for a donation to the fund."

She added: "We would like to thank everyone who has supported the campaign in any way and we look forward to continued progress in the New Year."
