25/ 4/2008
THE St George’s flag was flown proudly by the people of Hyndburn over the weekend with Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and Guides from all over the borough parading through Rishton as part of the St George’s Day Parade.
The parade began at Norden High School and Sports College and weaved through Rishton along High Street before ending at St Charles’ RC Church for a service.
Dressed as St George the dragon-slayer, Cosima Towneley led the procession on horseback and was followed by the Accrington Pipe Band.
During the service District Scouts Commissioner Jennifer Turner was recognised for her contribution to the organisation as she is stepping down later this year.
Jan Thompson was also honoured for her years of work as a leader and awards were also given to Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and Guides.
Gerry Tipling, Assistant District Commissioner for Cubs said: "It was cold and sunny but the parade went very well.
"There were people lined up all along the route and we had about 250 people walking with us."
