FA: 'Betting probe ongoing'

6/ 5/2008

THE FOOTBALL Association say they are 'still investigating' the high number of bets put on the Accrington Stanley against Bury match on Saturday.

A six-figure sum was put on a Bury win which led some bookmakers to stop taking bets on the League Two clash.

The FA and Football League admitted it was ' a significant amount of money' for the mid-table clash and that they were conducting a full investigation.

Speaking on Tuesday, the FA said: "We are aware of it and we are still investigating it at the moment."

Bury FC have released the following statement: "It is probable that the FA will launch their own investigation into the reported "unusual betting activity" that took place before the game against Accrington Stanley on Saturday 03 May 2008. If this is the case, then Bury Football Club will fully co-operate with any investigation.

"The club will not make any further comments until any investigation is concluded."
