Dad loses five pints of blood in stabbing

16/ 5/2008

A DAD-of-one was stabbed in the thigh and hip in a late-night attack in Accrington last Friday.

Kevin McGee, 44, of Sydney Street, was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment following the attack outside his home at around 10pm.

He sustained a deep stab wound to the left hip and to the inner thigh of his left leg.

He received stitches after losing almost five pints of blood and was later allowed home.

DS Nigel Watson, officer in charge of the investigation, said: "This was a serious incident and the victim received significant wounds. There had been an earlier disagreement and when the two men came together later there was a grappling to the ground and a stabbing when one of the men produced a knife from the back pocket of his jeans.

"This incident could have had tragic consequences. The victim was lucky to survive. We are clamping down on people who carry knives in the street."

l Michael MacGee, 41, of Sydney Street, Accrington, appeared at Hyndburn Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning charged with two counts of assault and possession of an offensive weapon. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Burnley Crown Court in August.
