'I am doing well'

25/ 6/2008

A POPULAR chiropodist is doing well after being knocked over by a horse.

Anne Starkie, who works at the Warner Street Practice, was hit by the horse over two months ago after it charged at her.

The 43-year-old who lives in Baxenden with husband, Paul, suffered a major head injury and spent several weeks in the Intensive Care Unit at Hope Hospital, Manchester.

Anne, who has horses of her own, said: “I was watching my neighbour bringing in the horse and he was having problems so I went to help and the horse came charging at me. I fell backwards and banged the back of my head.”

She spent two weeks in intensive car before being transferred to a ward at the Hope for another three weeks.

Anne has been recovering at home for the last three weeks and says she is making a slow but steady recovery an d hopes to be back in the reins at work soon.

She said: “I am getting there slowly. I feel physically fine but am still suffering some of the effects of a head injury like fatigue. You feel fine for a while but don’t know quite how well you are and then you suddenly have no energy.”

Her doctor has told her she may be able to go back to work by the end of summer but is not sure of an exact date at present.

Anne, who has been working at the practice for 18 years, said: “Some of my colleagues in the business have been helping at the practice which has is still open while I am off.

“I just want to thank everyone who has helped out and to all my patients who have sent their kind words.

“I want them to know I am doing well and will be back at work soon.”
