Police in cannabis raid

17/ 2/2003

POLICE have seized around 120 cannabis plants from a house in Dunnyshop Avenue, Accrington.

Officers discovered the haul in an upstairs bedroom and within the attic. The plants were being cultivated in a rotation fashion under ultra violet lighting and a fanning system.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and has been released on police bail pending forensic tests on the plants. Some dried leaf material, believed to be cannabis bush, was also seized.

Sergeant Damian Kitchen, who led the police operation, said: "The growing of cannabis will not be tolerated in Hyndburn. My team will be keen to execute similar warrants around the borough to recover illegal drugs. This operation will not be the last to target such offenders."

Sergeant Claire Holbrook, Accrington Police co-ordinator, said: "We will be most keen to hear from anyone who has information regarding the illegal growth or sale of drugs. It is only by working together with the public that we can rid Hyndburn of illegal drugs."
