Corrie stars on the ball

CORONATION Street stars took a break from filming to play in a charity football match in aid of the NSPCC.

Alan Halsall, who plays mechanic Tyrone Dobbs, and hunky Ryan Thomas, aka Jason Grimshaw, were among actors who took their skills to Accrington Stanley's Interlink Express Stadium to perform as part of an All Stars team against Burnley-based Brierfield Celtic.

More than £2,000 was raised through gate receipts, a raffle and programme sales. Judith Hayes, NSPCC appeals manager, said: "It was a fun event and the All Stars won 3-1. We were supposed to have stars from Emmerdale as well but they had to film at the last moment.

"Ben Freeman, who plays Scott Windsor, telephoned to explain and ask that we arrange another game soon so they can help us. We really have to thank Accrington Stanley because we couldn't have done the fund-raiser without them, as well as Brierfield FC."
