Heartache as mum’s worldly goods are thrown in a skip

A TEENAGER claims she has been left with just the shirt on her back after a landlady threw out all her worldly possessions just days after her mum died.

Kyra Dewhurst, 17, is distraught after losing everything she owned at the house in Westwood Street, Accrington.

She doesn't even have a change of clothes after all her belongings were scooped up and dumped in a skip.

It happened just days after Kyra buried her mum, Alison Louise Dewhurst, who died in her sleep last month a week before her 40th birthday.

Kyra, a former pupil at The Hollins Technology College, fumed: "We tried to clear the house during the week of mum's funeral but on the Friday night the landlady contacted my grandma demanding to have the property fully empty and clean by the end of the weekend.

"My grandma raised the help of three friends, one of whom is blind and the other two disabled.

"Together they arrived at the house on the Saturday morning to clear the property only to find that the landlady had already thrown all of my mother's possessions in a skip and ordered my grandma and her friends away from the house, slamming the door in their faces."

She added: "We have lost all our general belongings such as clothes, jewellery boxes, mirrors and a wardrobe. All my things were in plastic bags with my name on so they shouldn't have been thrown out.

"Nothing was junk, they were in decent condition. All I have been left with is a pair of jeans and two tops. I can't believe someone would act in this way. It is disgusting."

Kyra, who has a brother Reece, 10, now lives in Pickering with her boyfriend Darren Moore.

She said: "I have spoken to the police but they say it is a civil matter. We are going to speak to a solicitor. I can replace my belongings but not the memories which they carried, particularly those which were gifts from my mother."

Despite repeated attempts, the landlady could not be contacted for comment.

   I think the landlady is a un feeling woman. To put the belongings in a skip is unforgivable. When someone loses a loved one it takes a while to get around to doing things like sorting out belongings. The landlady could have held on to the things for a few weeks. She is heartless. Those poor children, to lose their mother then have her things discarded it's beyond believe.
