School’s out-of-this-world gift

PUPILS were over the moon after being given a gift which is literally out of this world.

The parents of four-year-old Darcy Hutchinson who attended Heathland Nursery on Sandy Lane, Accrington, from the age of three months, have bought an acre of the moon as a parting gift to the school.

Cheryl and Robert Hutchinson, of Beech Crescent, Altham West, who also have a three-year-old son Reece, who attends the nursery, said: "It is something that we found on the Internet and it just stuck with us when we were thinking of a present for Darcy to give to the school. We thought it would be something quite different.

Mrs Hutchinson added: "When I mentioned it to Darcy she said maybe they could build a nursery on the moon."

The land comes complete with a certificate, the deeds and a map which highlights the exact spot that belongs to the nursery.

Vice-principal, Mrs Jacqui Hide, said: "It is a wonderful present and very original. We're using it in classes when we're studying the moon and astrology. The children find it very exciting to imagine what the lunar landscape is like."

Darcy has now left the nursery to start at Altham Primary School.
