A COMPANY boss has slammed workplace bans on Christmas decorations as "disgraceful''.

Gordon McCallum, 62, chief executive of NetMovers, said his company was proud to celebrate Christmas with all its traditions despite employing a number of people from different religions.

Mr McCallum, who runs the business on Bridge Street, Church, with Israr Sarwar, 36, said: "We love Christmas. We put up decorations and a Christmas tree and we have carols playing on the radio.

"Out of our 30 staff about seven are Asian and some are Chinese and from the West Indies.

"We have an atmosphere of tolerance and respect and halal food is served so everyone can join in.

"We celebrate all religious festivals equally just as we did with Eid earlier in the year."

The business, which is the UK's top commission-free property website, prides itself on employing people for their skills and ability rather than their age, race, religion or sexual orientation.

Mr McCallum added: "It's disgraceful that some workplaces ban Christmas decorations for PC or health and safety reasons. Everybody here works together and we all celebrate each other's festivals and beliefs.

"Many of our Asian employees wear their saris to work every day and will still attend our works Christmas party. Equally, one member of staff recently went on a pilgrimage to Mecca.

"There is no racial tension in the office and if there was it wouldn't be tolerated, but there is no reason why Christmas can't be celebrated here."
