Huge crowds gathered in Accrington to see two young shining stars carry out the town's big Christmas lights switch-on.

Cheering crowds were treated to performances from R&B star Thomas Teago and pop sensations James McQueen and Tasha'Leanne.

After the music crowds waited in anticipation for the shining stars Charlie Humphries, eight, and Jamie Shields, nine, to pull lever and light up Accrington.

The fun started with music on the 2BR/Bee stage outside the town hall on Thursday, November 28.

Charlie's mum Zoe Bennett said her son had a great evening. She said: “It was absolutely fantastic, Charlie found it quite overwhelming.

“He was constantly looking around at all the people gathered. There was a lot bigger crowd than we expected.”

The evening came to a conclusion with a fireworks extravaganza.

Hyndburn MP Graham Jones took to twitter to say: “Accrington Town Centre lights switch on tonight. Really mild. Always a fun atmosphere.”

James McQueen tweeted after his performance: “Just finished! Wicked show tonight!”
